A Culture of Community & Contribution

A culture of volunteerism has been at the heart of Spring River from the very beginning. Our community was built by families who believed that when people bring their individual gifts, ideas, energy, and care together, they can create something meaningful for their children and for one another.

Spring River began in 2014 as a group of dedicated parents working together to create seasonal festivals and parent education opportunities. In 2015, we began offering enrichment classes to support homeschooling families, and in the fall of 2018, we expanded to include main lesson and enrichment programming.

​

Today, Spring River has grown into a multi-program Waldorf-inspired learning community, but the spirit of parent participation that helped create our community remains an important part of who we are.

​

We believe community is something we create together. Every family brings different talents, interests, experiences, and capacities, and there are many ways—large and small—to contribute.

​

Our Parent Council

Every Spring River parent is automatically a member of the Parent Council (PC), and every Spring River program has its own Parent Council community.

​

Each program has a Parent Council Chair who helps bring families together and encourages participation in the life of the program. Room parents and other parent volunteers help connect individual classes with the Parent Council, share information, coordinate projects, and create opportunities for families to become involved.

​

Parent Council activities may include:

• Supporting seasonal festivals, celebrations, and community events

• Assisting with fundraising initiatives

• Welcoming and connecting new families

• Supporting parent education and community-building opportunities

• Helping coordinate class and program volunteer needs

• Supporting the creation of a program-specific yearbook

• Encouraging families to share their individual skills, interests, and talents

• Creating opportunities for connection within each program and across the larger Spring River community​

Participation can look different for every family. It might mean helping prepare for a festival, contributing to a yearbook, sharing a professional or creative skill, assisting with a fundraiser, welcoming a new family, or simply joining a Parent Council meeting and bringing an idea to the table.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Connected Across Our Programs

Each program's Parent Council is led by its Parent Council Chair and held and guided by Spring River's Volunteer Coordinator in collaboration with the leadership of that program.

​

Our Volunteer Coordinator helps connect the Parent Councils across Spring River, supports chairs and parent volunteers, and helps create opportunities for our different program communities to come together.

​

This structure gives each program space to build its own traditions, relationships, and sense of community while remaining connected to the larger Spring River family.

​

At its heart, Parent Council is about participation, connection, and shared contribution—families working together to help make Spring River a welcoming, creative, and vibrant community for everyone.
