Admissions Process (K-8)

For Prospective Students

The instructions below will guide you through the admissions process.

Step One: Request Information

Step Two: Attend a Tour or Open House

The best way to know if Spring River is a good fit for your family is to attend our annual Open House or schedule a morning tour with a member of our staff. During summer months tours will not be possible so please contact our Enrollment Coordinator for more information through the inquiry link. Our admissions process begins by allowing parents to learn about our Waldorf-inspired outdoor education and to experience it firsthand by exploring our classrooms and watching the students engage their heads, hands, and hearts as they learn. A tour will help you to determine if Spring River’s unique approach to education is compatible with your child’s learning style.  We require a tour so all families are well-informed about their choice.

Step Three: Application

After attending a tour, the following step is to complete and submit an application form and pay the non-refundable application fee of $45 per student through FACTS family portal account.  Some classes are on a waiting list. Email the Enrollment Coordinator to inquire about your child’s grade at enrollment@springriverschool.org or by clicking the inquiry link.

Applications for new families open January 15th. We have rolling admissions which means that if we have an opening and your student is accepted, you may enroll your student.

Age cut-off:  Children must be five by 07/31/2024 for Kindergarten. To be eligible for first grade, children must turn six on or before 07/31/2024.

Step Four: Trial Day(s)

Once your application is received and reviewed by the administration, prospective students for all our programs will be invited to spend between 2 and 5 days (depending on the program they are applying to) in the classroom for which they are applying (only if there is an opening for the grade and program that they applied for).  If a class has reached capacity, and an application has been submitted, prospective students will be considered for the waitlist. If a vacancy occurs, the child will be invited to continue with a trial period.

During a class visit, your child will fully participate in all classes and activities, providing a complete immersion into our curriculum. Parents do not attend the classroom visits, allowing the child to experience the program as he or she would as a Spring River student. After the visit, parents may receive a request to participate in a follow-up meeting with the teacher and/or our Pedagogical Administrator.

Students applying to Spring River after the school year has ended may be invited to attend a meeting with the teacher or Pedagogical Administrator or be requested to participate in a trial period once school has resumed.  Spring River may also request teacher recommendations from previous schools.

The final decision to accept a child into the class is made by the class teacher. The decision is based on many factors, including an evaluation of the classroom visit, a review of any relevant records from schools or other programs, parent conferences, and the needs of the current class. Parents will be informed of the decision in a timely fashion.
